Our client, a bank based in Edinburgh, has a vacancy for a contractor to join their financial reporting team for 6 months to deliver financial and regulatory information.
The role holder will be expected to contribute to the team by:
Deliver financial (statutory accounts) and regulatory reporting.
Ensure all transactions are being accounted for in accordance with the Bank's stated accounting policy and IFRS GAAP.
Be responsible for understanding impact of changes to IAS39 liaising with external advisors where appropriate.
Be responsible for monitoring accounting developments and ensuring their impact is understood by key stakeholders.
Ensure any new products or initiatives are appropriately accounted for, engaging with external audit or other advisors where appropriate.
Understand and document loans impairment provisioning models and ensure any changes to these models are fully understood.
Ensure critical accounting estimates and judgements are understood.
Be responsible for calculating the capital position of the Bank and ensure impact of changes to the capital requirement directive is understood.
Be responsible for indirect and direct tax compliance and ensure appropriate engagement with tax teams. Complete and submit annual tax computations and ensure appropriate VAT treatment and reporting of transactions.
Ensure any items that could be considered benefits are appropriately treated from a tax perspective.
Further strengthen the internal controls environment and assist with reconciliations where required.
About You
Qualified accountant (likely to have at least 2 years PQE in industry).
Financial reporting experience. Exposure to IFRS reporting within the retail-banking sector will be particularly valuable. A detailed knowledge of regulatory reporting, whilst preferred, is not essential.
Ability to coach and develop a team
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
In particular, an ability to deal effectively yet empathetically with non-financial colleagues will be valued.
Role holder must be able to deal confidently with external parties (e.g. audit).
Strong PC skills, with an emphasis on Excel.
Self-motivated to identify solutions to problems without the need for close supervision.
Able to respond effectively, at short notice, to requests for detailed analysis.
